Creating a voice for print
Leeds Print Festival delivers a dose of inspiration whilst drawing attention to print and it’s importance in contemporary design culture. Entering it’s 5th year, a new identity was needed to better reflect the festival’s growing authority and to give it a stronger visual presence.
The festival is a celebration print in all it’s forms — so it was important that the identity did not fall into the trap of reflecting any specific process or style. With this in mind, we developed a universal symbol that focused on the bigger idea of print’s power of communication. It’s also a nod to the festival’s wider agenda of creating conversation and debate.
The expanding spiral form carries into the identity’s application, warping type and image through it in different ways. It creates a consistent visual principle that can be remixed and flexed in different ways as the campaign messaging changes for each festival year.
